  Growing Stronger: A Case of the Journey Inside.




When we talk of life, we naturally refer to a journey where we come across different situations that require inner strength. At times, it may look as though we are in some maze without any way out. On the other hand, what if we perceive such incidences as ways of making us better or stronger in the inside? The inward journey is equally essential as the external trip.


 1.Understanding Age-old Definitions;




Inner strength is the capacity to manage stress, deal with difficulties, and maintain oneself in the face of adversity. Inner strength develops with the better understanding of feelings, thoughts, and values of oneself. It is this process of elimination that we go through every single time we ask ourselves the questions, who are we, and what do we want. And this happens in most cases at first with self-awareness of course.


This is the ability to maintain a balance with one’s feelings and be aware of how such feelings can drive and direct one’s behaviour. For instance, if you are scheduled to give a big presentation and are already feeling some anxiety, it is better for you to know that you are feeling anxious. Doing this will allow you to take control of such a feeling rather than let it control you. This enables us to meet challenges in a more constructive manner.


2.Learning from Adversities;




Adversities are unavoidable aspects in every person’s life. Rather than running away from these, it would be better to learn to cope up with them. Every hardship we go through us offers us a lesson about ourselves. Overcoming something hard, we, as a rule, open up new resources and possibilities within ourselves that we were not aware of earlier.


Think of it this way, studying for a major test would likely require a great deal of effort. Primarily, everything you dedicate effort to would be learning the content, however, it also portrays you that diligence in efforts bears positive results. Such events instill positive self-image and strengthen us so that we can face the next obstacles that come our way with a better defeatist attitude.


3.Underpinning Strengths;



One more aspect of the process of development of strength is associated with setting achievable targets. Goals help in organising our lives and enabling us to have a sense


Their scope can vary—ranging from the pursuit of an objective to altering one’s way of life for the better. When we draw up plans of action, we are to some extent planning how we will go about the undertaking.


So, for instance, if you wish to get fit, you could decide to aim at exercising three times a week. Achieving these small goals gives a feeling of success and inspires us to move on.


4.The Role of Support;






Enhancing one’s capacity for endurance and resilience is an individual endeavour. The input of other persons in this pursuit is most welcome. People like friends, family, and even mentors play a role of offering some positivist and assistance. In fact, whenever we open up about issues bothering us, many a times have found ourselves in the situations that others have been before. It is always a great feeling knowing that one is not in the situation alone.

That again is essentially a form of support that we all need in our journeys which aim at strengthening us.

These can be well preserved by maintaining a journal. It enables one to identify, articulate and document their understanding and emotion over a given period and the changes therein.

Constructing internal fortitude is not a destination it’s a way of life. Acknowledging the self, first goes through the tribulations, then making a plan, getting help then looking back at everything helps build that strength. Every movement assists in building an image of who we are and what we are capable of doing. Understand that thin growth does get difficult but there is a silver lining to the clouds formed in the process.
